Position Summary – Heavy Equipment Hauler (Class A CDL)

The Heavy Equipment Hauler is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transport of heavy construction equipment between job sites, yards, and staging areas throughout Southern California.

This role is ideal for a skilled operator who is confident handling large, high-value equipment and understands that every haul is a balance of precision, planning, and safety. The Hauler plays a critical role in keeping operations moving by ensuring equipment arrives where it’s needed, when it’s needed, and in top condition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including low bed trailers and equipment haulers

  • Load, transport, and unload heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and skid steers

  • Properly secure equipment using chains, binders, straps, and approved tie-down methods

  • Plan and execute safe loading and unloading procedures on varied terrain and job site conditions

  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and BIT requirements

  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and transport documentation

  • Coordinate with dispatch, project managers, and field crews to ensure efficient scheduling and delivery

  • Inspect equipment before and after transport and report any damage or issues immediately

  • Perform minor truck and trailer maintenance (fueling, fluids, basic upkeep)

  • Ensure assigned equipment is clean, compliant, and ready for operation

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and DOT regulations at all times

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record

  • 3–5+ years of experience hauling heavy equipment (low bed experience preferred)

  • Proven ability to safely load and unload heavy equipment

  • Strong knowledge of load securement practices (chaining, binding, weight distribution)

  • Familiarity with Southern California routes, traffic patterns, and job site logistics

  • Ability to work safely in challenging environments including traffic, weather, and uneven terrain

  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with field teams

  • Experience operating heavy equipment is a plus

  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screening

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions
