Position Summary – Project Engineer
The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of wet utility construction projects, which include underground water, sewer, and storm drain systems. This position is responsible for assisting with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, and cost control while working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field crews. The Project Engineer plays a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Review drawings, specifications, and contracts to understand project scope, requirements, and potential risks.
Assist with project setup, including permits, submittals, and procurement of materials and equipment.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and vendors to support daily construction activities.
Track and manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders to ensure timely resolution and proper documentation.
Support scheduling efforts by updating project schedules, tracking progress, and identifying potential delays.
Assist with quantity tracking, cost control, and budget management, including monitoring production and installed quantities.
Coordinate inspections with city, county, and agency representatives to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Conduct site visits to monitor progress, verify work in place, and support field operations.
Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, as-builts, meeting minutes, and project logs.
Assist with preparing pay applications, invoices, and project closeout documentation.
Support safety compliance by reinforcing company and OSHA standards and participating in safety meetings.
Take on increasing responsibility in project management and field coordination as experience develops.
Qualifications
A strong interest in Construction Management is required. The Project Engineer must be highly motivated, organized, and capable of supporting multiple aspects of project execution.
0–3 years of relevant field experience and/or office experience in civil construction is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Must be comfortable coordinating with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Basic understanding of civil plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills.
Must have strong computer skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam. Exposure to project management and scheduling software is a plus.
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
